Welcome to the Long Island Gaels Minor Board
Established in 2000, the Long Island Gaels has a short but rich history. The club is mainly comprised of Irish American people who strive to promote Irish heritage and culture. One of the main sports they play is Gaelic (Irish) football. This is one of the oldest sports in the world. It is played on a field slightly larger than an American football field with fifteen players on each team. The playing format resembles a combination of soccer and American football. It is a fast-paced and entertaining game to watch. No heavy padding is required, shin guards are optional. At present the club has four underage programs; Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14. They have players from the North Shore to the South Shore, from Huntington to Point Lookout. At present they are training and playing in Molloy College in Rockville Centre. They compete against twelve other clubs around the Tri-State area. Long Island Gaels is the only Gaelic football club on Long Island. They are looking to expand their program on the Island. If you have children in your area who may be interested, they will run a training session in your area. The underage program is supported and sponsored by the Irish American Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Rockville Centre Parade Committee.
